SQUARISTIK
The Art of the Square
The square is right, balanced, grounded, stable and strong and through design is energized by color, contrasting shapes, line, and the mastery of pure artistic feeling. Douglas Yeuell, Artist and Chief Creative Director for Squaristik has held a lifelong passion for the art of the square and creating works within this design aesthetic.
Launched in 2025, Squaristik creates unique and bespoke items for people to share, wear, give, and enjoy that focus on beauty, purity, and symbolic meaning of shape and color.
At Squaristik, the art created is about life, feeling, and a portal to a deeper understanding. Shapes float, intersect, overlap, separate and move across the “canvas” and into the work. Depth, meaning, and symbolism are explored along with space, time, energy, and flow.
Background and History
The art of Squaristik is based upon a design aesthetic forged by the abstract painter movement of Suprematism. Founded by early 20th century artist Kazimir Malevich, the term Suprematism refers to an art based upon “the supremacy of pure artistic feeling” rather than on the visual depiction of the objective world. Suprematism used as its base fundamental geometric forms including the square, circle, rectangle and cross. Although works are bold and forceful, even with the drawing of a simplistic square there is never a sense of static arrest. Suprematism is a means to another end, through the study and contemplation of Suprematist works the individual is challenged to discover a new way of thinking, feeling, sensing and believing. With Suprematism there is more than meets the eye. Squaristik takes the design aesthetic and inspiration of Suprematism and reimagines it in new and different ways.
